Hi Folks, I have a report of a Lincoln's Sparrow found on the bog. These birds are famously hard to spot and are often discovered in the brush on the ground. Mushrooms continue to delight on the bog

Image
Hi Folks, I'm receiving reports of a greater variety of mushrooms sprouting up on the bog. Someone sent a picture of coprinus micaceus, which they are quoted as writing it reminds them of a mushroom village. In another report, due to the high water level one can really see the engineering behind the bog's water flow. Water is visibly flowing from the bog through culverts draining North and Northeast within the bog water overflow ditches. Baxter Bog Birder

Water levels are high on the Bog

Hi Folks, I've been hearing reports that all this rain is raising the water in the bog too unseasonable levels. The water level at the Lillie Pad lake are past the overlook. The North bridge now crosses noticeably high water in the water ditch. This is of course due to the record breaking rainfall we have received in July and August. Mushrooms on the bog

Hi Folks, I have received reports of mushrooms sprouting along the bog. Apparently the most noticeable  are the Aminita Muscaria, which are the mushrooms with the beautiful orange to red fruiting body. For more information on mushrooms in the bog you can peruse the delightfully informative board made by the fifth grade Anchorage Waldorf School by the bridge on the North side of the bog.
