Steller's Jays

 Hi Folks,

Reports are minimal as we move into September. So I wanted to showcase a common bird you can see on the bog; the Steller's Jay. This Blue bird makes South Alaska its home all year round. But they do move around and don't necessarily stay in Baxter Bog the way Chikadees and Nut Hatches reside on the bog.  While these blue beauties are fun to look at they are less fun to hear. Their harsh and unsettling screech was once described to me as a "dull saw failing to cut through wood" by a fellow birder. Here is more information about them from the Audubon Society.

As always if you have any information about the natural and seasonal happenings on Baxter Bog, please let me know at hot.bog.goss@gmail.com

P.S. A group of Steller's Jays is often called a Party or a Band.
